Updated Component Installation was created by Alf Pomells
Is it possible that an updated component version doesn't truncate the db tables that were created in previous versions?
If so.. is there a parameter to be set or a line to be hacked somewhere to update all of the necessary elements but not the data?
Thanks

This one needs an answer. Given that we are now faced with re-generating and re-installing to deal with Joomla 3.7.1, this becomes very important.

Hi there
There're two parts in a database: Data Management Language (data) and Data Definition Language (structure).
When updating a Premium component, data is not altered or deleted. And the structure of the database is only changed if the component is changed.
So premium users doesn't have to uninstall or install and they shouldn't lose data just by updating a component.
Hope this clarifies the issue.
Regards,
Andrés.
