Using JCategory but can't link to category view

HI all,

I'm using a field called Category using the "Joomla Category" field type.

I am able to create categories and place items in them, but I can't link to the category view from the menu manager.

I assumed there'd be an option like there is in com_contacts (See screenshot)

Then a drop down to select the category.

But I can only link to a list of every item no matter what category, or a single item.

Any help much appreciated 

First you need a view with category, then you manage links by editing:
components/com_yourcomponent/views/viewname/tmpl/default.xml
In this file you setup link name, type or you can even add options /params to get in view/
